Introduction To Screens

Screens turn PrimeCal into an always-on wallboard: a shared household schedule on the kitchen TV, a team standup board in a meeting room, or a calm single-task display for focused work. Every other part of PrimeCal assumes someone is actively logged in and clicking around — Screens is the one surface designed to be glanced at, not interacted with.

What a Screen is

A Screen is a layout you design once: a canvas of a chosen size, a wallpaper (an uploaded image or a theme color/gradient), and one or more Gadgets — small tiles that each show one thing (a clock, your focus list, a countdown, a notification feed, and many more — see the gadget catalog).

A Device is the physical hardware that displays a Screen: a wall-mounted TV, a tablet on a stand, a kiosk PC, a Raspberry Pi, even a car's built-in screen. You design Screens from your normal PrimeCal account; you pair Devices to them separately (see pairing a device).

Getting started

  1. Open Screens from the main navigation.
  2. Click New Screen, pick a size (a dropdown of common TV/tablet/monitor resolutions, or a custom width/height), and give it a name.
  3. Drag Gadgets from the palette onto the canvas, then drag and resize them to taste.
  4. Pick a wallpaper — either upload an image or choose a color/gradient from PrimeCal's theme palette.
  5. Optionally turn on Hide navigation (kiosk mode) so the Screen renders with zero app chrome when shown on a Device.
  6. Pair a Device to it (see pairing a device) or apply one of the built-in Templates to get started faster.

Read-only by design

Screens shown on a paired Device are strictly read-only — nobody is expected to be standing at the wallboard with a keyboard. The one exception is the Quick Trigger gadget, which lets a rule owner offer a single confirm-to-fire automation button on a Screen; it requires the rule to be explicitly marked safe for this by its owner, and every tap requires a second confirming tap plus a cooldown before it fires again.

Plan limits

The number of Screens you can create depends on your plan:

Sharing a Screen's layout as a Template with a group or organisation requires Pro or above.
