Performance Issues
PrimeCal feels slower than expected — pages take a long time to load, calendar views are sluggish, or events are slow to appear. Here are the most common causes and easy fixes.
Calendar views are slow to load
Most likely cause: You have a large number of calendars all visible at once, and PrimeCal is fetching and rendering events from all of them simultaneously.
Fix:
- In the sidebar, uncheck calendars you don't need to see right now — fewer visible calendars means fewer events to load.
- Switch from Month view to Week or Day view — Month view shows the most events at once and is the most demanding to render.
- If you have many automation rules, disable rules you are not actively using (Dashboard → Automation).
- If you have several external calendars synced, try temporarily disabling sync for calendars you rarely look at (Settings → Calendar Sync).
Memory usage grows during a long browser session
If you leave PrimeCal open in a browser tab for many hours or days, the tab may become slower over time.
Fix:
- Reload the page. This resets the browser's memory for the tab and is always safe to do.
- Avoid leaving the calendar open in a background tab for very long periods — a daily reload keeps things running smoothly.
Everything is slow today but usually fine
Occasional slowness can be caused by a temporary load spike on the service or a slow network connection.
Fix:
- Check your internet connection — try opening a different website to see if it's your network.
- Wait a few minutes and reload. Service load spikes are usually brief.
- Try a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
Events take a long time to appear after creating or editing them
Most likely cause: The event was saved but the calendar view hasn't fetched the latest data yet.
Fix:
- Reload the page — the view will re-fetch all events.
- If you're using external calendar sync (Google or Microsoft), allow a minute or two for the sync to propagate.
Still stuck?
If performance problems are consistent and reloading doesn't help, contact support with:
- Which view or feature is slow (Month view, event list, automation panel, etc.)
- Roughly how many calendars you have enabled
- Your browser and device (e.g., Chrome on a 2021 MacBook Pro)
- Whether the slowness started recently or has always been present
