Time Zone Handling

PrimeCal supports over 70 timezones covering every major region in the world. Once you set your timezone, every event you see — whether you created it yourself or it was synced from Google Calendar or Outlook — is displayed in your local time. You never have to do mental time math.

Setting Your Timezone​

Your timezone is part of your user profile.

  1. Click your avatar or name in the top right corner.
  2. Open Profile Settings (or User Profile).
  3. Scroll to the Timezone section.
  4. Select your timezone from the dropdown. Timezones are listed by region and major city (for example, "Europe/Budapest", "America/New_York", "Asia/Tokyo").
  5. Click Save.

The change takes effect immediately — all open calendar views refresh to show times adjusted to your new timezone.

Supported Timezones by Region​

PrimeCal includes timezones across all major regions:

How PrimeCal Applies Timezones​

When you create an event, PrimeCal stores its date and time in a way that is independent of where you are. When you view the event, it is displayed in whatever timezone your profile is set to. This means:

  • An event created by Will in New York at 3:00 PM EST appears at 9:00 PM on May's calendar if she is in Budapest (CET+1 in winter, CEST+2 in summer).
  • If you change your timezone in your profile, all existing events shift visually — their underlying time does not change, only how it is displayed to you.
  • All-day events (birthdays, holidays, school days) are not affected by timezone — they always occupy the whole day in every timezone.

Synced External Calendars​

If you sync events from Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, PrimeCal reads the timezone embedded in those events and displays them correctly in your local time. You do not need to manually adjust anything.

If an external event appears at the wrong time, check two things:

  1. Your PrimeCal timezone — is it correctly set to your actual location?
  2. The source calendar's timezone — the original event in Google or Outlook might have been created in a different timezone. That is the timezone PrimeCal receives.

Scheduling Across Timezones​

When you are finding a meeting time with someone in a different timezone:

  1. Set your PrimeCal timezone to your own location.
  2. Look at the week view — your events are already in your local time.
  3. If the other person has shared their PrimeCal calendar, their events appear in your local time too. A 2:00 PM meeting they set in Tokyo shows as 7:00 AM in London (for example) on your calendar.

This makes it easy to see the real overlap — you look at your week view and find a block that works for you, and that automatically maps to the correct time for the other person.

Example: Will and a Client Across Time Zones​

Will (will_blate) is in Budapest (Europe/Budapest timezone). He has a client call with someone in San Francisco (America/Los_Angeles). The client confirms "Tuesday at 10 AM Pacific". Will opens his PrimeCal in week view. He already has his timezone set correctly. He creates the event with the title "Client call — SF" and sets the time to 7:00 PM Budapest time (10 AM Pacific = 7 PM Budapest, UTC+2 in summer). PrimeCal stores and shows it at 7 PM on his calendar. Both parties see the correct local time in their own tools.

Tips​

Keep your profile timezone current when you travel

If you travel to a different timezone for a week, update your profile timezone while you are there. Events will display in local time, making it much easier to navigate your schedule. Change it back when you return.

12-hour vs 24-hour time format

Your timezone setting works independently of your time format preference. You can use a 24-hour clock (18:00) or a 12-hour clock (6:00 PM) — set this in the same profile area under Time Format. Both work with any timezone.
