Sharing Calendars
Sharing a calendar in PrimeCal lets you give specific people access to one of your calendars — they can view (and optionally edit) the events on it, without affecting any of your other calendars. Sharing is targeted: you choose who gets access and what they can do.
How calendar sharing works
- Sharing is per-calendar. Sharing "Late Family" doesn't give anyone access to your "Personal" or "Work" calendar.
- You share with specific users by searching for their PrimeCal username or email address.
- You choose a permission level (Read, Write, or Admin) for each person. See Permission Levels for a full breakdown.
- The shared calendar appears automatically in the recipient's sidebar — they don't need to accept an invitation.
- As the owner, you can change or remove anyone's access at any time.
Share a calendar
- In the left sidebar, find the calendar you want to share.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the calendar name.
- Select Share calendar.
- In the dialog that appears, type the person's username or email address in the search box.
- Select the correct person from the search results.
- Choose a permission level from the dropdown: Read, Write, or Admin.
- Click Share.
Repeat steps 4–7 to add more people.
You can also share with a whole group of users at once using User Groups. This is handy for families or teams you share multiple calendars with.
Example: The Blate family's Late Family calendar
May Blate (may_blate) manages the family schedule. She creates a calendar called "Late Family" and shares it with three people:
| Person | Username | Permission | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Will Blate | will_blate | Write | He books family events too |
| Sue Blate | sue_nenough | Read | She checks the schedule but shouldn't edit |
| Noah Time | noah_time | Read | Same — view only |
After May shares the calendar, it appears in Will's, Sue's, and Noah's sidebars the next time they open PrimeCal. Will can add and edit events; Sue and Noah can see everything but can't make changes.
Change a member's permission
- Open the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the calendar.
- Select Share calendar (or Manage sharing).
- Find the person in the members list.
- Click the permission dropdown next to their name and select the new level.
- Save the change.
Remove a member
- Open the Share calendar dialog for the calendar.
- Find the person you want to remove.
- Click Remove (or the X icon) next to their name.
- Confirm the removal.
The calendar disappears from their sidebar immediately. They lose all access to the events on it.
Removing someone's access is immediate and cannot be undone automatically. If you remove someone by mistake, you'll need to re-share the calendar with them.
Tips for choosing permissions
- Read is the right choice for family members or colleagues who just need to see what's happening — like Sue and Noah checking whether there's a family dinner.
- Write works well for active collaborators who create and edit events, like a partner or co-worker managing a shared project calendar.
- Admin is for trusted co-managers who also need to invite or manage other members. Use it sparingly. See Permission Levels for the full matrix.
