Receiving a Shared Calendar
When someone shares a PrimeCal calendar with you, there's nothing you need to do to accept it. The calendar appears in your sidebar automatically.
What happens when you're added
- The person who owns the calendar shares it with you (by your username or email).
- The calendar appears in your left sidebar under your calendar list, usually labeled with the calendar's name and marked with the owner's color or a shared indicator.
- You'll see a notification in PrimeCal confirming that a calendar was shared with you.
- The events on that calendar appear in your calendar view immediately — blended in alongside your own events.
There is no accept or decline step. Access is granted immediately when the owner shares the calendar. If you don't want to see it, you can hide or remove it (see below).
Example: Sue receives the Late Family calendar
When May Blate shares the "Late Family" calendar with her daughter Sue (sue_nenough), the calendar appears in Sue's sidebar the next time she opens PrimeCal. Sue can immediately see family events like "Pizza Friday" or "Parent-teacher conference" — she doesn't need to do anything to set it up.
Hiding a shared calendar
You can uncheck a calendar in the sidebar to hide its events from your view without leaving the share. This is useful if you want to declutter your view temporarily.
- In the left sidebar, find the shared calendar.
- Click the checkbox or color dot next to its name to uncheck it.
- Events from that calendar are hidden from your calendar view.
To show it again, click the checkbox once more.
Leaving a shared calendar
If you no longer want access to a shared calendar, you can remove it from your account:
- In the sidebar, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the shared calendar.
- Select Leave calendar (or Remove from my calendars).
- Confirm that you want to leave.
Leaving a shared calendar removes your access entirely. The events disappear from your view, and you won't be able to see them again unless the owner re-invites you. If you left by accident, ask the calendar owner to re-share it with you.
What you can do with a shared calendar
What you can do depends on the permission level the owner gave you:
- Read — You can view all events. You cannot create, edit, or delete anything.
- Write — You can view events and create, edit, or delete them.
- Admin — Everything Write allows, plus managing who else has access.
See Permission Levels for the full breakdown.
Shared calendar appearance
Shared calendars look like your own calendars in most ways:
- They appear in the sidebar with the same calendar color that the owner set.
- Events from shared calendars appear in your month, week, and day views.
- You can filter by calendar using the sidebar checkboxes.
- In event details, you'll see which calendar the event belongs to.
If you share multiple calendars with the same person (for example, May shares both "Late Family" and "School Events" with Will), each calendar appears as a separate entry in Will's sidebar. He can hide or show each one independently.
