Calendar Subscriptions

PrimeCal can subscribe to public iCalendar (.ics) feeds — standard calendar files published by external sources like sports leagues, schools, governments, or event organizers. Once subscribed, the events appear in your PrimeCal view and update automatically when the source changes.

What is a calendar subscription?​

A subscription is a read-only connection to an external public calendar. Unlike calendar sync with Google or Microsoft (which imports your own events from another account), a subscription follows a publicly published schedule that anyone can access with a URL.

Common examples:

  • National or regional public holidays
  • Sports team schedules (football, basketball, etc.)
  • School term dates and events
  • Conference and event schedules
  • Your local council's events calendar

How to subscribe to a calendar​

  1. Go to Settings → Calendar Sync.
  2. Click Subscribe via URL (or Add calendar from URL).
  3. Paste the .ics URL into the field.
  4. Give the subscription a name — for example, "Hungarian Public Holidays" or "Liverpool FC Fixtures".
  5. Optionally choose a color to distinguish it in your view.
  6. Click Subscribe.

The subscribed calendar appears in your sidebar and the events populate your calendar view.

Most services that publish .ics feeds make the URL available under names like "Subscribe", "iCalendar link", "ICS feed", or "Add to calendar". Look in the service's settings or export options.

Finding .ics URLs​

Here are some places where you can find .ics calendar URLs to subscribe to:

  • Google Calendar public calendars: In Google Calendar, open a public calendar → click the three-dot menu → "Copy link" or look for the iCal (ICAL) link under calendar settings → "Integrate calendar".
  • Outlook / Microsoft: In Outlook.com, open a shared or public calendar → "Publish calendar" → copy the ICS link.
  • Sports leagues: Many football, basketball, and other sports leagues publish fixture calendars. Search for "[league name] ics calendar" or look in the league's official site under "Downloads" or "Schedule".
  • School calendars: Many schools publish .ics files of term dates and events. Check the school's website under "Calendar" or "Downloads".
  • Conference schedules: Developer conferences, academic conferences, and industry events often publish session schedules as .ics files.

How subscriptions update​

PrimeCal checks the source URL periodically and refreshes the events when the source changes. You don't need to re-subscribe when the organizer adds new events — they appear in PrimeCal automatically.

The update frequency depends on your PrimeCal settings and plan. If you need the latest data immediately, you can trigger a manual refresh from the Calendar Sync settings page.

Subscribed calendar behavior​

  • The calendar is read-only in PrimeCal. You cannot create, edit, or delete events on a subscribed calendar.
  • It appears in your sidebar like any other calendar. You can show or hide it with the checkbox.
  • The color you chose during setup applies to all events from that subscription.
  • Unsubscribing removes the calendar and all its events from your view. No data is deleted from the source.

Unsubscribing​

  1. Go to Settings → Calendar Sync.
  2. Find the subscription in the list.
  3. Click Remove or Unsubscribe.

The subscribed calendar disappears from your sidebar and all its events are removed from your views.
