Publishing a Public Calendar

Public calendar publishing lets you share a calendar with anyone — including people who don't have a PrimeCal account. Instead of inviting specific users, you generate a public link that anyone can access.

There are two ways to share a calendar publicly:

  • Public web view: a read-only web page showing your events, accessible via a shareable URL.
  • Subscribe URL: an .ics feed that anyone can subscribe to from Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or any other calendar app.

Who should use this​

Public publishing is useful when you want to share a schedule openly:

  • A local sports club publishing its match and practice schedule
  • A small business sharing its opening hours or event calendar with customers
  • A community group advertising upcoming events
  • A school publishing its term and event calendar for parents

Public calendars are visible to anyone with the link. Do not include personal information, private appointments, home addresses, or sensitive details in a publicly published calendar. Use Calendar Sharing instead if you need to share privately with specific people.

How to publish a calendar publicly​

  1. In the left sidebar, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the calendar you want to publish.
  2. Select Calendar settings or Share & publish.
  3. Find the Public access or Publish calendar section.
  4. Toggle the switch to enable public access.
  5. PrimeCal generates two links:
    • Public link: a web URL showing a read-only view of the calendar.
    • Subscribe URL (ICS): an .ics feed URL that calendar apps can subscribe to.
  6. Copy and share the link(s) as needed.

The public web view​

When someone opens the public link in a browser, they see a clean, read-only calendar view showing all events on that calendar. They do not need a PrimeCal account. They cannot create, edit, or delete events.

The public view includes:

  • Event names, dates, and times
  • Event descriptions and locations (if you've added them)
  • A monthly or list view of upcoming events

The subscribe URL (.ics feed)​

The .ics subscribe URL lets anyone add your calendar to their own calendar app:

  • Google Calendar: click the + next to "Other calendars" → "From URL" → paste the URL.
  • Apple Calendar: File → New Calendar Subscription → paste the URL.
  • Outlook: Add calendar → From internet → paste the URL.

Their calendar app will check for updates periodically and reflect any changes you make in PrimeCal.

Disabling public access​

You can turn off public access at any time:

  1. Open the three-dot menu (⋮) → Calendar settings → Public access.
  2. Toggle the switch off.
  3. The public link and subscribe URL stop working immediately.

Anyone who had subscribed via the .ics URL will stop receiving updates, and their subscribed calendar will become stale.

tip

If you want to share the calendar with a fresh URL (for example, because you accidentally shared the old URL somewhere you didn't intend), disable public access and re-enable it. PrimeCal generates a new link.
