Building A Screen Layout

Choosing a size

When you create a Screen, pick from the size dropdown — it lists the ten most common resolutions across TVs, tablets, monitors, and small kiosk displays (e.g. 1920×1080, 4K, iPad landscape/portrait, ultrawide, a small 800×480 Raspberry Pi panel). If none fit, choose Custom size and enter an exact width and height in pixels. You can change a Screen's size at any time from its editor — existing gadgets keep their pixel position and size, so resizing the canvas may require repositioning them.

Adding and arranging Gadgets

The Gadget palette on the left of the Screen editor is grouped by persona — Universal, Family, Focus-friendly, IT Pro, and AI & Tech — matching the full gadget catalog. Click a Gadget to add it to the canvas at a sensible default size, then:

  • Move a Gadget by dragging it — it snaps to a grid for clean alignment.
  • Resize a Gadget by dragging the small handle that appears in its bottom-right corner when selected.
  • Remove a Gadget with the × button that appears on its header when selected.

A Screen can hold up to 60 Gadgets, though most wallboards look best with far fewer.

Wallpaper

Every Screen has exactly one wallpaper, chosen from two tabs:

  • Upload image — JPEG, PNG, or WebP, between 200KB and 20MB. The image is validated both by its declared type and by its actual file content, so a mislabeled file is rejected rather than silently accepted.
  • Theme color — pick any of PrimeCal's 16 theme colors and their gradients, the same palette used throughout the rest of the app.

Kiosk mode

Toggling Hide navigation on this Screen removes all PrimeCal app chrome — the sidebar, top bar, everything — when the Screen is shown on a paired Device. This is what makes a Screen usable as an actual wall display rather than a scaled-down version of the normal app.

Display density

Each Screen independently chooses between:

  • Comfortable — denser, closer to how information looks in the rest of PrimeCal. Good for a desk monitor someone sits near.
  • Minimal / Large text — bigger text, more whitespace, fewer competing elements. Better for a wall-mounted display viewed from across a room.

Saving your work as a Template

Once you're happy with a layout, use Save as Template to turn it into a reusable Template — see Templates and sharing for how Templates work and how to share one with your household or team.
