Apple Calendar and CalDAV
PrimeCal supports the CalDAV standard, which lets you connect PrimeCal to Apple Calendar (on Mac and iPhone), Mozilla Thunderbird with Lightning, and any other calendar app that supports CalDAV. You can also export any PrimeCal calendar as a static .ics file for one-time sharing.
What you'll need
Before you start, find your PrimeCal CalDAV server URL and credentials:
- Go to Settings → Account (or Integrations → CalDAV).
- Copy your CalDAV server URL — it will look something like
https://app.primecal.eu/caldav/[your-username]/. - You'll also use your PrimeCal username and password (or an app-specific password if your account uses two-factor authentication).
Connect Apple Calendar on macOS
- Open System Settings → Internet Accounts (macOS Ventura and later) or System Preferences → Internet Accounts (older macOS).
- Click Add Account → Other Account → CalDAV account.
- Set Account Type to Advanced (to enter a custom server URL).
- Fill in the fields:
- Username: your PrimeCal username or email
- Password: your PrimeCal password
- Server Address: your PrimeCal CalDAV URL
- Click Sign In.
macOS connects to PrimeCal and imports your calendars. They appear in the Apple Calendar sidebar. Events you create in Apple Calendar sync back to PrimeCal.
Connect Apple Calendar on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app → Calendar → Accounts.
- Tap Add Account → Other → Add CalDAV Account.
- Enter:
- Server: your PrimeCal CalDAV URL
- Username: your PrimeCal username or email
- Password: your PrimeCal password
- Description: a label like "PrimeCal"
- Tap Next. iOS verifies the connection.
- Your PrimeCal calendars appear in the iOS Calendar app.
Connect Thunderbird with Lightning
- In Thunderbird, open the Calendar tab.
- Right-click in the calendar list → New Calendar → On the Network → CalDAV.
- Enter your PrimeCal CalDAV URL.
- When prompted, enter your PrimeCal username and password.
- Thunderbird discovers and imports your calendars.
Export a calendar as an .ics file
If you just need a one-time export (not a live sync):
- In PrimeCal, open the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the calendar.
- Select Export → Download as .ics.
- Save the file and import it into any calendar app that supports iCalendar format.
This creates a static snapshot — it does not stay in sync with future changes.
Troubleshooting CalDAV
Authentication error: double-check your username and password. If your account has two-factor authentication, you may need to generate an app-specific password from PrimeCal's security settings.
Calendars not showing: make sure you entered the full CalDAV URL correctly, including a trailing slash if required. Try the Advanced or Manual setup option in your calendar app rather than automatic discovery.
Sync delay: CalDAV sync frequency depends on your calendar app settings. In Apple Calendar, you can set the refresh interval under Preferences → Accounts → [Your CalDAV account] → Refresh Calendars.
