Push Notifications

Push notifications let PrimeCal alert you about upcoming events and other activity in real time — even when the app isn't in the foreground.

Browser Push Notifications​

When you use PrimeCal in a web browser, you can enable browser push notifications:

  1. Click the bell icon in the main navigation, then click Settings to open Notification Settings.
  2. Find the push subscription toggle near the top of the page and enable it.
  3. Your browser will ask for permission — click Allow.

Once enabled, you'll see a pop-up alert in your browser whenever a push-eligible notification fires, even if PrimeCal isn't the active tab.

Browser push notifications only work when your browser is open. If you close the browser, you won't receive them.

Mobile Push Notifications (iOS and Android)​

The PrimeCal mobile app sends push notifications directly to your device:

  1. When you first install the app and sign in, iOS or Android will ask if PrimeCal can send notifications — tap Allow.
  2. If you accidentally denied permission, enable it manually:
    • iOS: Settings → PrimeCal → Notifications → turn on "Allow Notifications"
    • Android: Settings → Apps → PrimeCal → Notifications → enable

Once enabled, you'll receive push alerts even when the app is in the background or your screen is locked.

What Triggers a Push Notification​

  • Event reminders: fires at the timing configured on that specific event (see Per-Event Reminder Settings)
  • Shared calendar changes: when someone adds or edits an event on a calendar you share (toggle in Notification Settings)
  • Reservation activity: when a reservation you're tied to is created, updated, or about to start
  • Anything else you've enabled push for in Notification Settings, per notification type

Whether push actually fires right away also depends on the notification's priority class: Critical and Time-critical items are always delivered immediately, while lower-priority items may be held for a natural gap or batched into a digest depending on your preferences — see How Priority Works.

Setting Reminder Timing​

Reminders are configured per event, not with a single global default:

  1. Open the event's edit modal.
  2. Scroll to the Reminder field.
  3. Set the timing (e.g., 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour before).
  4. Save the event.

If you connect Google or Outlook calendars, their reminder settings can also be imported automatically on sync if you opt in — see External Sync.

Notification Content​

Push notifications show:

  • The event or item title
  • A short description of what happened or what's coming up
  • The calendar or context it belongs to (where applicable)

Tapping the notification opens PrimeCal directly to that item.
