Calendar Search and Keyboard Shortcuts

Finding and navigating

Search what is on screen, and move without the mouse

Narrow the calendar to the events you care about, and navigate periods, switch views and create events using only the keyboard.

Searching

Type in the search box above the calendar. Matching events stay visible and the rest are hidden as you type.

Search looks at the event title, description, location, notes, calendar name, labels and tags.

Accents do not matter

Searching megbeszeles finds Megbeszélés, and uber finds Über. This works in both directions, so you never have to reproduce accents to find something.

Every word must match

team sync returns events containing both words, not everything containing "team". Search for a single word to widen the results.

Scope: the period you are looking at

Search covers the loaded period

Search runs over the events currently loaded — roughly the period on screen — not your entire history. The box says so beneath it. To search further back or ahead, navigate to that period first.

Filters

Next to the search box:

  • Label chips — click a label to show only events carrying it. Click again to remove the filter. Only labels that actually appear in the current period are offered, so a filter never returns nothing.
  • All day — show only all-day events.

Filters combine with the search text: both must match.

Clear search removes the text and every filter at once.

Inside the grid

Once a day is selected, the calendar grid behaves like a spreadsheet:

KeyAction
← →Previous / next day (the selection moves; the month does not page)
↑ ↓Same weekday, previous / next week
Home / EndFirst / last day of the week
Page Up / Page DownPrevious / next period
Enter or SpaceOpen the selected day

On an event

With an event focused, Enter opens it, Space picks it up, the arrows move it and Space or Enter drops it; Shift with ↑ or ↓ changes how long it lasts. See Rescheduling by Dragging.

Shortcuts never interrupt typing

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a field, so pressing D in an event title types a "d" rather than switching views. Shortcuts using Ctrl, Cmd or Alt are left to your browser.

Shortcuts and Experience Modes

The view keys follow your Experience Mode. In Focus mode only O (Now), D (Day) and A (Agenda) switch views, and in Simple mode only A, D and M; the other view keys do nothing, and the ? reference lists only the keys that work.

Screen readers

The calendar grid is exposed as a proper grid: each cell announces its date and whether it is selected or today, and changing period or view is announced. The whole grid is a single tab stop, so you tab to the calendar and then use arrows within it, rather than tabbing through 42 separate cells.
