Navigating the Calendar
PrimeCal gives you three different ways to look at your schedule, plus simple controls for moving through time and focusing on just the calendars you care about right now. Here's how to get around.
The Top Bar
The top bar is the main navigation area. From left to right:
- View switcher — buttons labeled Focus, Month, and Week that switch the main calendar view
- Date navigation — a ◄ (back) button, a ► (forward) button, and a Today button
- Current date display — shows the month and year (or week range) you are currently viewing
- New Event button — opens the event creation modal
- Search icon — opens the event search panel
- User avatar — top right; opens your profile, settings, and logout
Switching Views
Click any of the three view buttons to change how your calendar is displayed:

PrimeCal remembers which view you were last using between sessions.
Moving Through Time
The ◄ and ► arrows step backward and forward by one period at a time:
- In Month view: moves by one calendar month
- In Week view: moves by one week (Mon–Sun)
- In Focus view: the view always shows the current moment, so navigation arrows are not present
Click Today at any time to jump immediately back to the current date. This works from any view and any date.
You can also click on a month name or week label in the sidebar mini-calendar (if visible) to jump directly to that period.
Month View Navigation
In Month view, the calendar shows a 6-week grid covering the current month plus any days from the weeks that overlap at the start and end.
- Click any day cell to highlight it and open a right-side panel listing all events for that day.
- Clicking a different day shifts the right panel to show that day's events without changing the month.
- The current day is highlighted with a circle or accent color.
- Events appear as colored cards within each day cell. If there are more events than fit, a "+N more" link appears — click it to see the full list.
Week View Navigation
Week view shows a 24-hour time grid for the current 7-day span.
- Scroll up and down to move through the hours of the day.
- The current time is shown as a horizontal line across the grid.
- Click a time slot to create a new event at that time.
- Drag across a time range (click and hold, then drag down) to create an event with a pre-filled duration.
- Overlapping events appear side-by-side in columns within the same day.
- All-day events appear in a fixed banner row above the hourly grid.
Focus View
Focus view shows a live timeline centered on the current moment. It:
- Displays a live clock
- Shows the current and upcoming events prominently with remaining time
- Auto-scrolls to keep "now" visible
- Is ideal for checking what's next during a busy day
Focus view does not have date navigation arrows — it always anchors to the present.
Showing and Hiding Calendars
The left sidebar lists all your calendars and any shared calendars you have access to. Each calendar has a colored dot and a checkbox (or eye icon).
- Click the checkbox or dot next to a calendar name to toggle its events on or off in the main view.
- Hidden calendars are dimmed in the sidebar; their events are removed from the view entirely.
- Calendar groups can be collapsed or expanded in the sidebar. Collapsing a group hides all calendars inside it from view at once.
This is useful when you want to focus on just one person's schedule. For example, May can hide the Work calendars and show only the Late Family and school calendars when she's planning the kids' weekend.
Example: Spotting a Free Weekend
May wants to find a free weekend in July where no family events are scheduled. She:
- Clicks Month in the view switcher.
- Clicks ► once to advance from June to July.
- Scans the month grid — she's looking for Saturday and Sunday cells with no colored event cards.
- She spots July 19–20 are clear.
- She clicks July 19 to open the day panel and confirms nothing is hidden.
Keyboard Shortcuts
PrimeCal supports a few keyboard shortcuts to speed up navigation:

Keyboard shortcuts are active when the calendar itself is focused (not when a modal or input field is open).
