Recurring Events

If something happens on a regular schedule — every weekday, every Tuesday, the first of every month — you should only have to enter it once. PrimeCal's recurring event system creates all future occurrences automatically so your calendar stays accurate without manual work.

What Is a Recurring Event?

A recurring event is a single event definition that generates multiple occurrences according to a pattern you choose. Each occurrence appears on your calendar on its own day and time, just like a standalone event. The difference is that PrimeCal manages the whole series for you.

Common uses:

  • Work standups every weekday
  • School drop-offs on Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Ballet class every Tuesday and Thursday
  • A monthly rent payment on the 1st
  • A weekly team lunch every Friday

Creating a Recurring Event

  1. Open the event creation modal (click New Event, click a day, or drag a time slot in Week view).
  2. Fill in the title, calendar, start time, and end time as normal.
  3. Find the Repeat toggle and turn it on.
  4. Choose a repeat pattern (see below).
  5. Set an end condition if you want the series to stop.
  6. Click Save.

PrimeCal immediately generates all occurrences up to the end condition and places them on your calendar.

Repeat Patterns

Daily

The event repeats every single day. Use this for routines like a daily journal entry or a morning medication reminder.

Weekly

The event repeats on specific days of the week. You choose which days — for example, Monday + Wednesday + Friday. The event fires every week on each of those days.

This is the most commonly used pattern for household schedules.

Monthly

The event repeats on the same date each month. For example, if you create the event on the 15th, it will appear on the 15th of every month going forward.

End Conditions

OptionWhen to use
NeverOngoing routines with no foreseeable end (work standup, morning routine)
On dateThe series stops after a specific calendar date
After N occurrencesThe series stops after a set number of times

Editing a Recurring Series

When you click on a recurring event, PrimeCal asks whether you want to change just this one occurrence, this and all future occurrences, or the entire series.

See Editing and Deleting Events for a full explanation of each option and when to use it.

Viewing All Occurrences

Each occurrence of a recurring event looks the same as any other event on your calendar. You can tell it's recurring by the small repeat icon shown in its detail popover when you click it.

tip

Create recurring events for all your household routines when you first set up PrimeCal. A well-set-up recurring event saves you from re-entering the same information dozens of times and makes sure nothing gets forgotten. A few minutes of setup pays off across weeks and months.

note

Recurring events count toward your calendar's event total and your plan's limits. If you need a large number of events across many calendars, consider upgrading your plan.
